The Crawford Grill Jazz Club is the last 'jazz shrine' standing today in the Pittsburgh region. The venue represents one of the longest running and last surviving monuments to the tradition and culture in the United States that led to the designation of African-American Jazz as a "National Treasure" by the U.S. Congress in 1987. The Crawford Grill is famous not only for the jazz greats who played at the venue, but also as a legendary gathering spot for both its grass-roots and famous patrons alike including Dr. Martin Luther King, President Jimmy Carter, Roberto Clemente, August Wilson, and Frank Sinatra.
